They drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough at the Manor Ground.

73 years ago today Arsenal played their only compe 73 years ago today Arsenal played their only competitive game in June, away at Sheffield United.

This was due to a backlog of postponed games and a ban on midweek games.

It was also Tom Whittaker's first game as manager.

On the same day the reserves beat Coventry City in the semi-final of the Football Combination Cup. Their season would finish the following week.
